Role of Hery Susanto: Correcting Ministry of Forestry Regulations Using Special Letter for Benefit of PT TSHI

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has designated Hery Susanto (HS), Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, as a suspect in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of nickel mining in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) from 2013 to 2025.

Director of Investigations (Dirdik) of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the AGO, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, revealed that the case originated when PT TSHI faced issues regarding the calculation of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).

“So, initially, a company named PT TSHI had a problem with PNBP calculations by the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut),” said Syarief during a press conference at the AGO in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

From that communication, Hery issued a special recommendation letter to cancel the Ministry of Forestry’s policy.

“Thus, the letter or policy by the Ministry of Forestry was corrected by the Ombudsman, with instructions for PT TSHI to calculate its own payable burden,” he stated.

In this collusion, Hery is alleged to have received billions of rupiah from LKM, the Director of PT TSHI.

“Approximately what has been handed over by this one person is around one and a half billion rupiah or Rp 1.5 billion,” he said.

“The suspect is currently detained for the next 20 days at the Salemba Detention Center branch of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office,” said Syarief.
