Role of Cilegon Chamber of Commerce Chairman in Rp5 Trillion Extortion of Foreign Investor Revealed
JAKARTA - The General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Banten Regional Police has named three individuals as suspects following the viral video of an alleged Rp5 trillion extortion scheme carried out by senior officials of the Cilegon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
The three suspects are Muhammad Salim (MS), Chairman of the Cilegon City Chamber of Commerce; Ismatullah (IS), Vice Chairman for Industry of the Cilegon Chamber of Commerce; and Rufaji Jahuri (RJ), Chairman of the Indonesian Fishermen's Association (HNSI) Cilegon. All three have been named as suspects in the extortion case.
Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Dian Setyawan, detailed the roles of the three suspects in the extortion case.
Muhammad Salim's role as Chairman of the Cilegon Chamber of Commerce was to recruit and mobilise people to stage protests at PT Chengda Engineering Co, a Chinese investor.
"Subsequently, on 14 and 22 April 2025, MS and IA met with PT Total, the representative of PT Chengda, and pressured them to hand over project contracts," said Dian on Saturday (17 May 2025).
