JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Balai Pengujian Laik Jalan dan Sertifikasi Kendaraan Bermotor (BPLJSKB) ensures that every motor vehicle circulating in Indonesia meets safety and roadworthiness standards. The primary task of this institution is to conduct type testing, which is a comprehensive evaluation process for vehicles before mass production and marketing to the public. Through this stage, vehicles are tested from various aspects, starting from safety, performance, to environmental impact. “The most important thing is indeed our main task of type testing. However, there are also several other tasks,” said Iman, who was met in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday (5/5/2026). One of the services provided is testing for vehicle conversions from conventional engines to electric, as well as modified or customised vehicles. This becomes important in line with the developing trends of vehicle electrification and modification in Indonesia. Thus, the role of BPLJSKB is not limited to the initial stage of vehicle production but also covers development and innovation processes. Iman explained that for prototype vehicles, testing is conducted repeatedly to ensure that every improvement truly enhances quality and safety. “This also includes prototype testing for product development. So, for example, if there is an APM developing a certain product, in that development process, it is usually tested first,” he said. “Before mass production, the prototype has already gone through the testing stage,” said Iman. This is done through cooperation with various parties, including universities. Iman stated that such collaboration opens opportunities for testing innovative products that are still in the research stage. “In addition, we also serve the needs of research institutions or educational institutions,” said Iman. “We also collaborate with several universities that conduct research related to those products,” said Iman.
