TOKYO (Reuter): Rohto Pharmaceutical Co Ltd said on Wednesday that it would expand its business in Indonesia and China.
In Indonesia, Rohto will set up PT Rohto Laboratories Indonesia with the Gemala Group of Indonesia, Rohto said in a statement.
The venture, capitalized at about 200 million yen, will be owned 60 percent by Rohto and 40 percent by Gemala. It will be headquartered in Jakarta but a plant will be set up about 170 km southeast of the Indonesian capital, it said.
The venture will replace production and sales of eye drops by an Indonesian state-owned company, Rohto said. The state firm has been making and selling eye drops under a license pact with Rohto.
The venture will also make and sell lenses for use in operations for cataract patients.
Sales of eye drops, to start by the end of this year, are expected to total 200 million yen in the initial year, Rohto said. Sales of lenses, also to begin by the end of this year, are also expected at 200 million yen in the initial year.
