A Brimob officer has been reported to the Maluku Police Integrated Service Centre (SPKT) after allegedly assaulting an elderly man following a side mirror collision.

According to the SPKT Maluku Police report, the suspect is a member of the Maluku Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) identified as Briptu DP, aged 28. The alleged assault occurred on Saturday, 23 May 2026, around 1:30 am WIT outside the OJK Karang Panjang office in Sirimau District, Ambon City.

Maluku Police Public Relations Chief, Kombes Pol Rositah Umasugi, explained that the incident began when the victim’s four-wheeled vehicle allegedly collided with the side mirror of a Brimob vehicle. Following the incident, the suspect allegedly chased the victim’s vehicle until it stopped outside the OJK office. When the victim got out to explain the situation, a verbal altercation reportedly escalated into physical assault.

“Initial reports indicate the victim sustained injuries to his nose and a broken front lower tooth. The victim has filed an official report at the Maluku Police SPKT, which is being processed according to legal procedures,” said Kombes Rositah Umasugi in Ambon on Monday, 25 May 2026.

The Public Relations Chief added that the SPKT report has been forwarded to the Maluku Police Criminal Investigation Directorate for further clarification and investigation, including verifying statements from the suspect, victim, and witnesses to establish the facts objectively.

The Public Relations Chief also stated that the Maluku Police Internal Affairs Unit has taken several steps, including coordinating with the Maluku Brimob Unit and conducting clarifications to investigate the alleged code of ethics violation.

He assured that the alleged assault case involving a Maluku Brimob officer of the rank Briptu is being handled professionally, transparently, and in accordance with legal procedures. “Maluku Police emphasise that all public reports will be handled professionally and transparently,” he added.

Kombes Rositah stressed that her institution will not tolerate any officer violating the law or the police code of ethics.

“If criminal or ethics violations are found during the investigation, they will be processed strictly according to regulations without exception. Maluku Police are committed to maintaining professionalism and public trust,” she said.
