Rocky Gerung Explains Reasons for Attending Jumhur's Inauguration as Minister

Intellectual Rocky Gerung has revealed his reasons for attending the inauguration of Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of the Environment at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026). He shared this with reporters after the ceremony. “Yes, as a representative of civil society, I was invited to witness it and also to serve as a marker that the cabinet becomes effective when it includes figures who were former prisoners,” he said. According to Rocky, Jumhur is a former convict in a case of spreading false news. However, he continued, Jumhur is an intellectual. “He studied labour, economics, and the environment at ITB. So because I know him, I accompanied him. That’s why I’m here,” Rocky stated. Separately, Jumhur said he was tried with a two-year prison demand in the false news spreading case. After that, the law that formed the basis of his punishment was annulled by the Constitutional Court (MK). “That law no longer applies. So I’m actually floating. I was never truly a suspect because the law no longer exists. During the process, the law was annulled,” Jumhur explained.
