JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Roblox’s Vice President of Global Public Policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco, stated that Roblox will launch two age-based games in Indonesia, namely Roblox Kids and Roblox Select. Colaco mentioned that this step is taken after Roblox restricted access for users under 16 years old in accordance with the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). “This is an age-based account type for users under 16 years old, which will be specifically tailored for Indonesia to fully comply with PP Tunas,” said Nicky during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026). As an initial step, Roblox has implemented age estimation technology through mandatory facial scanning to restrict access to chat features. Indonesian users who have not used this feature will be automatically placed into Roblox Kids accounts and cannot access chat features. For users aged 5 to 12 years, Roblox Kids accounts do not provide chat features at all. “Parents do not need to take any special actions to get this new protection for their children in Indonesia,” said Colaco. “Children will be automatically placed into the appropriate accounts, and parents will have strict parental controls over their children’s accounts,” she added. Colaco emphasised that Roblox is fully committed to complying with PP Tunas and views the regulation as important for protecting children and families in Indonesia. The company considers Indonesia as one of the leading countries in child protection and is committed to providing a safe, positive, and creativity-supporting online space for millions of its users. Previously reported, the Roblox gaming platform has complied with PP Tunas rules regarding access restrictions for children under 16 years old. Therefore, to date, there are eight platforms that have stated their commitment to comply with the rules, namely Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox. “So, Roblox today closes the series of the first eight platforms that we announced at the beginning of March,” said Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid during a press conference at the Komdigi Office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).
