KOMPAS.com – The Roblox platform officially launches an age-based account system in Indonesia for users under 16. The feature introduces two new accounts: Roblox Kids for ages 5–12 and Roblox Select for ages 13–15. Indonesia becomes the first country to adopt the system. After Indonesia, global rollout will be phased starting next month in New Zealand, Australia and the Netherlands.

Through these accounts, players under 16 will automatically be placed into the account type according to their age based on Roblox’s global age-verification technology.

After verification, users will only be able to access the catalog of games that is curated and regularly updated.

Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman said the launch aims to ensure children access only content suitable from the outset of using the platform. “In other words, younger users can access more games in line with their age, and parents and families gain a greater sense of safety and confidence for their children,” Kaufman said in the official statement received by KompasTekno, Thursday, 21 May 2026.

In Indonesia, this policy also forms part of compliance with government regulations, including PP Tunas.

On 30 April 2026, Roblox also met with the Minister of Communications and Digital, Meutya Hafid, in Jakarta to discuss implementing a stricter age-based account restriction system for under-16 users.

In this new system, Roblox claims to have integrated various layers of protection, from age verification, age-based account settings, content ratings, ongoing moderation, to parental controls into a single integrated framework.

For Roblox Kids (ages 5–12), users can only access games with content maturity labels ‘Minimal’ or ‘Mild’ that have passed screening.

All communication features will be turned off by default, and parents can block or permit certain games. The app’s appearance is differentiated with a blue background as a marker of the account type.

Meanwhile, Roblox Select (ages 13–15) provides access to games with maturity up to ‘Moderate’ that have passed additional screening.

The chat feature is available only to trusted friends and must have parental consent.

Users who have not completed age verification will have access limited to ‘Minimal’ and ‘Mild’, and cannot use chat features, regardless of actual age.

In addition, Roblox is expanding parental controls. Parents can now set content ratings, restrict communication, manage playtime, and monitor their child’s activity, including games played and their friends list. Parents can also block particular games more specifically or grant access for certain content.

Roblox emphasises that all content on the platform continues to go through strict moderation, including AI-based asset scanning, ongoing evaluation of user reports, and real-time monitoring to detect potential policy violations.
