Roblox Introduces Kids and Select Accounts in Indonesia to Protect Users Under 16

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The digital platform Roblox is introducing two new account settings, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, in Indonesia to protect users under 16 years old and provide parents with more options to safeguard their children in the digital space. “With the new announcement we’re making through the introduction of Roblox Kids Account and Roblox Select, we’re trying to provide more support to parents to help them feel more confident and in control that the experience they have for their children is the right one,” said Roblox Vice President of Civility and Partnerships Tami Bhaumik in Jakarta on Tuesday. All these account settings will undergo a technological age verification process. Specifically for these account settings in Indonesia, Roblox applies Roblox Kids for users aged 5-12 years and Roblox Select for users aged 13-15 years. The Roblox Kids account is designed specifically for users aged 5-12 years who have passed the technological age verification process. This account will only allow access to games with “Minimal” or “Mild” content labels. Automatically, all communication modes including chat access will not be available. Additionally, there will be a special design with unique colours throughout the application to distinguish Roblox Kids from regular access. Next, for Roblox Select, this account setting allows users to access only games with content labels including the Moderate category. For communication access, Roblox Select account users can only communicate with trusted friends approved by parents. This age-based Roblox account system will adjust to the user’s age as the child grows and develops. The Roblox Kids account will automatically change to Roblox Select when the child reaches 13 years old. Meanwhile, Roblox Select will automatically become a standard Roblox account when the user turns 16. If users have not completed the age verification stage, they will be limited to playing only games in the Minimal or Mild categories and cannot communicate at all via Roblox. The age limits for Roblox Kids and Roblox Select in Indonesia are designed specifically differently from the global standard. For Roblox’s global provisions, the Roblox Kids age setting is available for users aged 5-8 years. Meanwhile, Roblox Select is available for users aged 9-15 years.
