Roblox Introduces Family Zone Feature to Empower Parental Supervision
Roblox has introduced a Family Zone feature that enables parents to link their accounts with their children’s, providing access to a parental dashboard via mobile phone to adjust settings and manage access to content. Vice President of Civility & Partnerships at Roblox, Tami Bhaumik, explained that the feature is designed around a co-play concept, allowing parents to better understand their children’s activities through interactive experiences on the platform.
To further protect young users, Roblox has implemented an age verification system using facial recognition to ensure users are placed in the appropriate age category. This system also restricts underage users from accessing communication features. Bhaumik stated that children aged 5 to 12 are blocked from using communication tools, and if the system detects activity anomalies inconsistent with a user’s age, it will prompt re-verification, including the use of official identification cards. She emphasised that facial scan data is deleted immediately after the verification process and is not used for advertising or tracking purposes.
