Roblox Finally Complies with PP Tunas, Implements Age Verification for Users Under 16

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, announced that the gaming platform Roblox has finally complied with the Government Regulation (PP) on access restrictions for users under 16 years old. “Today, Roblox has conveyed its commitment to compliance to Komdigi,” said Meutya during a press conference at Komdigi in Central Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026). Meutya explained that the discussions with Roblox had been quite lengthy. This was because Roblox is a gaming platform with different characteristics compared to social media, requiring technical adjustments before being declared compliant with PP Tunas. Based on company data, the number of Roblox users in Indonesia reaches around 45 million people, with about 23 million of them being children. “And from the age verification, age verification is mandatory. If not, chats or direct communication features will be disabled,” she explained. This policy also applies to users over 16 who do not undergo verification, including facial verification. In addition, Roblox is implementing content restrictions for games based on age classification. Content accessible to users under 13 years old will differ from that for users aged 13–16 or over 16. To address the risk of addiction, Roblox is also introducing a playtime or screen time setting feature that can be controlled by parents. With this feature, parents can limit their child’s gaming duration. Meutya added that with Roblox’s commitment, all eight digital platforms in the initial phase of access restrictions for users under 16 have now complied. They are Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox. Next, the government will conduct further in-depth reviews and supervision of its implementation.
