Roblox Finally Complies with Indonesian Rules, App Undergoes Total Overhaul

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Roblox has finally complied with Indonesia’s regulations on age restrictions for using online platforms, PP Tunas. Consequently, all eight platforms listed to follow the rules have now met the existing requirements.

“So, what we want to convey is that today Roblox has submitted its compliance commitment to Komdigi,” said the Minister of Komdigi, Meutya Hafid, during a press conference on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Roblox’s compliance differs somewhat from other social media platforms. The gaming app does not block accounts for children under 16 years old but restricts the chat features within it.

Additionally, Roblox differentiates games presented to users under 13 years old and those under 16 years old.

“Roblox is launching Roblox Kids and Roblox Select in Indonesia. These are age-based account types for users under 16 years old, which will be specifically tailored for Indonesia to fully comply with PP Tunas,” said Nicky Jackson Colaco, VP of Global Public Policy at Roblox.

She explained that Roblox Kids for ages 5-12 will have no chat features at all. Meanwhile, Roblox Select for ages 13-15 cannot use chat with strangers under any circumstances.

Only parents can permit appropriate communication, such as with close family members and friends. Children will also be placed in suitable accounts, and parents will have strict control over their children’s accounts.

Users will be required to undergo facial verification to ensure they are of sufficient age to play. If an age under 16 is detected or verification is not performed, communication features and restrictions will be applied.

“So, this is what is important: those who do not undergo age verification will have their chats disabled. This includes the possibility that someone over 16 does not perform facial verification; their communication features will also be automatically disabled, and there will be restrictions on games to those suitable for young children,” said Meutya.

“Then, another feature is, as we mentioned earlier, there are restrictions on games according to age classification. So, games that can be viewed by those under 13 will differ from those viewed by under 16, and by those over 16,” she explained.

For information, there are 23 million child accounts on Roblox out of a total of 45 million accounts in Indonesia.
