Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, has officially commended the gaming platform Roblox for implementing age verification for its users in Indonesia.

This policy represents compliance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection, known as PP Tunas.

In a press conference held in Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026), Meutya explained that this step is highly significant in accordance with the regulation, given the large proportion of child users on the platform.

Of the total 45 million Roblox users in Indonesia, 23 million are recorded as children under 16 years old.

“Roblox has removed communication features with unknown individuals for children under 16 and 13 years old. This step aligns with the main aspects of the government regulation, namely restrictions on communication with strangers and content control,” Meutya stated.

In addition to interaction restrictions, Roblox also provides screen time settings that can be directly controlled by parents to minimise the risk of gaming addiction in children.

Meutya said that to date, her office has received compliance commitments to PP Tunas from eight digital giant platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (formerly Twitter), Bigo Live, YouTube, and TikTok.

The implementation of child protection has also received support from various Regional Governments (Pemda) through policies restricting device use in school environments. “We are greatly assisted by regulations if schoolchildren do not bring devices to school,” she added.

On the same occasion, the Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Commissioner General of Police (Retired) Eddy Hartono, also appreciated the firmness of the Ministry of Communication and Digital in enforcing PP Tunas.

According to him, this regulation serves as an important fortress in protecting the younger generation from exposure to radicalism and terrorist propaganda in the digital space.

“We have prevented 112 children from being exposed to terrorism through social media,” Commissioner General Eddy revealed.

He emphasised that BNPT will continue to carry out ongoing mitigation so that children do not become easy targets for terrorist networks that exploit social media as a means of spreading radical ideologies.

The government hopes that synergy between regulations, platform compliance, and parental oversight can create a safer digital ecosystem for children’s growth and development in Indonesia.
