Jakarta (ANTARA) - Shares of Roblox Corporation (RBLX) fell by approximately 15% during trading on 1 May, in line with the adjustment of its full-year 2026 performance projections amid changing dynamics of user engagement on its platform. According to the first-quarter financial report cited from the Baystreet website on Saturday, the company noted a shift in user activity levels. Roblox stated that several policy adjustments, including strengthened security systems and child protection, have influenced interaction patterns as well as bookings, which serve as one of the revenue indicators. Since the beginning of the year, Roblox has implemented restrictions on online chat features, accessible only to users who have completed age verification. This step is part of efforts to enhance safety, particularly for child users. Company data shows that around 73% of verified daily active users are under 18 years old, with about 35% of them under 13 years old. The strengthening of these policies occurs amid growing global attention to child protection issues in the digital space. Roblox is currently facing more than 140 legal proceedings in the United States related to alleged child protection failures, which have also prompted the company and other industry players to bolster platform security and governance standards. As part of these adjustments, Roblox has introduced special account types for younger age groups and expanded parental control features. The company stated that these changes may affect user activity in the short term, as users adapt to a safer and more managed system. In Indonesia, strengthening child protection in the digital space is also a focus through the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Organisers in Child Protection (PP Tunas). This policy aims to create a safer, healthier digital ecosystem suitable for child development. With a significant number of child users in Indonesia, these adjustments are expected to impact user engagement patterns, especially during the transitional implementation period. Roblox now projects total bookings for 2026 to be in the range of $7.33 billion to $7.6 billion, lower than previous projections. This adjustment is also reflected in the company’s share price movement. Nevertheless, first-quarter financial performance still exceeded analyst expectations. Roblox recorded a loss of $0.35 per share, better than previous estimates, and revenue of $1.73 billion, slightly above market estimates. Overall, the various policy adjustments reflect the digital industry’s efforts to respond to the need for stronger child protection. Although they may affect usage patterns in the short term, these steps are expected to provide a more solid foundation for creating a safe digital space, while supporting the long-term sustainability of the digital ecosystem.
