Robert Downey Jr inaugurates Disney Adventure, Disney's first cruise ship in Asia
Robert Downey Jr inaugurates Disney Adventure, Disney’s first cruise ship to operate in Asia, at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) in Singapore on Tuesday, 4 March 2026. The inauguration marks the debut of Disney’s first ship to operate in Asia and it will set sail on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. Downey’s presence was a highlight at the ceremony for the launch of Disney Cruise Line’s largest and newest vessel. Downey, best known for his role as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was announced as godparent of the ship on Tuesday, 24 February 2026. In nautical tradition, a godparent performs a symbolic blessing and prayers for the ship and its passengers. The ceremony was festive with a medley of Disney songs. Downey appeared on stage to dramatic smoke effects. Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, who attended the ceremony, joked to him. ‘This should be a great blessing. I’m sure you’ll handle it,’ D’Amaro said, as quoted by The Strait Times on Tuesday. Downey replied succinctly, ‘I’m that guy.’ He then symbolically blessed the ship. ‘I bless Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it,’ Downey said. The ship, with a capacity of 6,700 passengers, is Disney Cruise Line’s (DCL) largest and newest fleet. The vessel will make Singapore its homeport for the next five years. Melissa Ow, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), described the moment as a new chapter for Asia’s cruising industry. ‘Today marks an important milestone as Disney’s first cruise ship docks in Asia, right here in Singapore,’ Ms Ow said. She explained that Disney’s decision to appoint Singapore as a long-term homeport reflects confidence in global connectivity, world-class infrastructure, and the appeal of the Lion City as a destination.
