Robbery Motive Behind Death of Ermanto Usman

The motive behind the assault of Ermanto Usman, a retired Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) employee, and his wife, which left them battered in their Bekasi residence, has been revealed. The perpetrator was acting to rob the home.

In the robbery, Ermanto Usman died at the scene from a crowbar blow inflicted by the perpetrator. Meanwhile, Ermanto’s wife, identified as P, remains in hospital care following a critical condition.

The perpetrator is identified as Sudirman, also known as Yuda. He was apprehended at 18.54 on Monday 9 March at Cilincing, North Jakarta.

The perpetrator made off with various items ranging from jewellery to car keys. A series of evidence secured by police includes the crowbar, identified as the tool the perpetrator used to kill the victim, along with cash, three mobile phones, one laptop, and one pair of scissors.

Robbery Motive

At a press conference, Metro Jaya Police revealed that Ermanto was killed by the robber. The perpetrator did not target the victim specifically but selected the victim’s home at random.

“The motive was theft or murder committed in the course of the theft by the suspect,” said Metro Jaya Police Criminal Director Brigadier General Iman Imanuddin at a press conference on Wednesday 10 March 2026.

Iman stated that the perpetrator observed Ermanto Usman’s house to be the largest in the area. Consequently, the perpetrator assumed there would be numerous items available for theft.

“The perpetrator observed that the house was the largest in the area, so the perpetrator assumed there would be sufficient valuable items to obtain,” he explained.

Ermanto Killed After Confronting Perpetrator

Iman added that the suspect killed the victim because the victim caught him in the act. The perpetrator struck the victim and his wife using the crowbar he had brought to break into the house.

“The suspect was startled whilst committing the theft when the victim awoke upon hearing the dawn alarm. When the female victim switched on the lights and encountered the suspect, the suspect struck the crowbar used to prise open the window,” Iman stated.

“Upon striking the female victim because the bedroom door was open, the suspect saw the male victim sitting,” he added.

Shot During Apprehension

The perpetrator was shot by police during apprehension. The suspect attempted to flee when detained.

“Because the perpetrator attempted to escape,” stated Rahim.

The murder occurred on Monday 2 March. The perpetrator was apprehended by Metro Jaya Police Operational Task Force at 18.54 on Monday 9 March in Cilincing, North Jakarta.

The perpetrator is currently designated as a suspect and is in custody.

Facing 20 Years Imprisonment

Police have designated the perpetrator as a suspect. The perpetrator was immediately detained.

“Currently, we have placed the suspect in custody and are processing detention at Metro Jaya Police detention facility,” said Iman.

Iman stated the suspect faces multiple charges. The suspect faces a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

“The suspect faces criminal penalties under Article 458 paragraph 1, carrying 15 years imprisonment; Article 458 paragraph 3, carrying 20 years imprisonment; and Article 479 paragraph 3, carrying 15 years imprisonment,” he stated.
