Robbery attempt turns into chase

A robbery attempt in Cikarang, Bekasi regency, on Saturday afternoon turned into a drama that killed one of the robbers and seriously injured a local who was hit by two bullets, Bekasi Police reported on Sunday.

On Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., Kadi Sumandi, 19, and Bowo, 20, stole a notebook computer from a parked car on Jl. Imam Bonjol in Cikarang.

As they took away the computer, the car owner Rajiv Singh Vi, an Indian citizen and director of PT Buana Samudra Lestari, saw them and screamed for help. The two suspects quickly hopped on their motorcycle and rode away.

Some locals, mostly ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers, immediately chased after them on their motorcycles.

One motorcycle managed to crash into the suspects' and the two fell off their motorcycle. But one of the two, Kadi, immediately took out a gun and shot at the crowd. One of the ojek drivers, Karya bin Tamin, was shot twice in the stomach and was sent to a nearby hospital. He reportedly survived.

The remaining crowd continued to pursue the two and managed to capture them. They beat up Kadi and his accomplice Bowo. Bowo later died at the scene as a result of the beating while Kadi was taken to Cibitung Police station.

From the suspects, the police seized a notebook computer, the 0.22-caliber gun, three bullets and two knives.
