Robbery attempt on a bus

On Jan. 4, 1996 at about 7:30 p.m. I was riding on an air-
conditioned limited passenger bus en route to Blok-M in South
Jakarta from Rawamangun, East Jakarta. I narrowly escaped
becoming a target of robbery on the Steady Safe bus. The bus
conductor was apparently ignorant of the two passengers who got
on the bus at the Karet bus stop. They had weapons with them.

Fortunately, they did not go into action because the bus' back
door was closed, although one of the robbers had a knife in his
hand.

There was a security guard mixing with ordinary passengers.
This was the reason I chose this particular bus for safety
purposes. But the robbers may not have been aware of the
existence of a security person, so they tried their luck on the
bus.

I warn bus crews to be more vigilant in picking up passengers.
