Robbers steal truck, 27 tons of paper

BEKASI: A gang of robbers allegedly stole a truck loaded with 27.7 tons of raw paper early on Sunday when the truck driver, Sumiaji, was dozing at a rest area along the Cikampek toll road in Bekasi.

Sumiaji told Bekasi Police that the toll road was very quiet at around 1 a.m. on Sunday. Sumiaji and his assistant were sleeping when suddenly a gang of unidentified men approached them and threatened to kill them. The gang members bound and gagged the driver and his assistant before taking them to Serang, Banten.

The victims were then thrown out of the truck on the side of the toll road. They were helped by passing motorists and later reported the case to the Bekasi Police.

However, they could not identify the suspected robbers, because they claimed it was very dark.

The case is being investigated by Bekasi Police. -- Antara
