Robbers steal 4kg of gold

PEKANBARU, Riau: A gang of robbers broke into Arif Jewelry in Kandis, Bengkalis regency, on Sunday afternoon, and took four kilograms of gold and Rp 130 million (US$13,829) in cash.

No fatalities were reported in the armed robbery.

A witness said on Monday that the six robbers -- all armed -- entered the jewelry shop and threatened to kill Arif, the shop owner, if he refused to surrender his valuables. They immediately fled the scene on three motorcycles.

Arif Jewelry shop is the largest in the regency. -- JP
