Robbers shoot employee

JAKARTA: A bank customer was shot in the groin by armed robbers at 11:30 a.m. on Monday after withdrawing Rp 120 million (US$14,117.65) from the Bank Mandiri branch in Warung Buncit, Mampang, South Jakarta.

Ahmad Furqon, 36, an employee of surveyor company Imacon located on Jl. Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, was rushed to the Siaga Hospital in South Jakarta.

Unbeknownst to Furqon and his colleague, Yusuf, 35, they had been tailed by two robbers from the time they had left the bank. The robbers pretended to park their Yamaha RX King motorcycle next to Furqon's before one of them attempted to grab the bag out of his hand.

As Furqon refused to let go of the bag, the robber shot him twice. One of the shots hit the motorcycle but another hit Furqon in the groin.

The robbers waved their pistols around to scare passers-by before making good their escape with the money.

Police discovered two bullet cases at the scene. -- JP
