Robbers make off with sedan

TANGERANG (JP); Three men robbed a resident of Bona Sarana
Indah housing complex in Tangerang and made off with a sedan,
tape recorder, 50 grams of gold and Rp 600,000 in cash yesterday.

The assailants overwhelmed the baby sitter Sunarti, and
housemaid Ijah, in the house of Yulius Chandra, who was out when
the robbery took place at about 9 a.m.

Sunarti said she was caring for Chandra's child, Fiter, 4,
when the three men, who claimed they had been asked by Chandra to
repair the leaking roof on the second floor, arrived.

As one of the three was a man they knew as a worker who had
previously been hired by Chandra to repair the house they were
not suspicious.

Ijah accompanied one of the robbers to the second floor while
the other two remained downstairs with Sunarti.

Ijah said suddenly the man threatened to kill her with a
knife. "He forced me to say where Mr. Chandra keeps his money and
jewelry," she said.

The two other men attacked Sunarti, gagged her and tied her
arms and legs with ropes.

Only after the robbers escaped did Ijah shout for help.

Eyewitnesses said that the three arrived in a taxi, which
dropped them at a nearby junction.

Police said it will only be a matter of time before they are
arrested as they have all been identified. (18/sur)
