Robbers make off with Rp 5m

SEMARANG: Five masked robbers made off with Rp 5 million in cash and jewelry from the home of local businessman Tan Djien Khan on busy Jl. Gombel.

The robbery took place in the early hours of Friday in spite of frequent police patrols in the area, Antara reported.

The robbers, who had fire arms and a sickle, threatened Tan and his children while they ransacked the home.

Police, who were alerted of the robbery after it took place, immediately sealed all roads leading out of Semarang. They also went through registration books of the hotel opposite Tan's home. (emb)
