Robbers get Rp 130m in broad daylight

JAKARTA: A motel employee Edy Irawadi was shot in the leg on Tuesday around noon by a robber who took Rp 130 million (US$15,476), which was to be used to pay salaries.

Edy and his three colleagues withdrew the money from Bank Mandiri at Wisma Metropolitan on Jl. Sudirman, Central Jakarta.

The group stopped their van at a gas station in Tebet, South Jakarta, on their way back to the motel in Cawang, East Jakarta. Suddenly, four robbers on two motorcycles approached the van from each side and pointed guns at the four.

One of the robbers, who was on the van's left side, shot a bullet into the left window, opened the door and snatched the money bag from under the seat. The bullet caught Edy.

One of Edy's friends, Johnny Dunggio, reported the incident to Tebet police.

This is the second known violent robbery this month, using very similar methods. Earlier, four robbers with guns on motorcycles stole Rp 140 million from a French citizen Paul Quinn in South Jakarta. -- JP
