Robbers clean out candidate's home

JAKARTA: The residence of Sys NS, a legislative candidate and an executive of the Democratic Party, was robbed by four men on Monday around midday.

The robbers took diamond jewelry worth Rp 200 million (US$23,529), two exclusive wristwatches, and US$1,000, S$1,000 and Rp 20 million in cash.

The robbers gained entry to the house, which is located on Jl. Prapanca Raya No. 92, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, by pretending to be members of the Democratic Party. They claimed they had been ordered by Sys NS, who was previously a TV show host and was absent at the time of the robbery, to collect party T-shirts.

Believing that the four men were genuine party members, security guard Untung opened the door and invited them in. One of the men immediately produced a gun and forced Untung to show them the way to Sys' bedroom.

After taking whatever valuables they could find, the robbers apparently still had time to order Untung to make them some drinks before leaving the house.

The case is being handled by the South Jakarta Police. -- JP
