Robber wounds housewife

JAKARTA (JP): An unidentified robber severely wounded a housewife in Rawa Bugel village, near Harapan Jaya housing complex in North Bekasi, and managed to escape with the woman's purse containing Rp 1 million in cash and important documents on Wednesday evening.

Asli Ratua, 43, was on her way home after visiting a colleague near the housing complex when she was robbed, a police officer of the North Bekasi subprecinct said. An unidentified man held her up her with a sickle and threatened to kill her unless she surrendered her purse.

"But the victim did not hand over her purse, causing the man to slash her with his sickle. While she screamed in pain, the man immediately grabbed her purse and left."

He said local residents that heard the woman's scream then rushed her to hospital and reported the case to the police.

As of Thursday, the unidentified robber was still at large.

The victim was still being treated at Bekasi General Hospital.

"We have therefore been unable to question her yet," the officer told The Jakarta Post. (01)
