Robber Who Sprayed Acid on Online Driver to Death Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison
The panel of judges at the Cibinong District Court has handed down a 10-year prison sentence to M Ridwan Maulana, after he was proven to have committed theft preceded by violence that led to a fatality. Ridwan was found guilty of splashing acid on an online taxi driver, M Yoga Firdaus, during an attempt to steal his car.
“Sentencing the defendant M Ridwan Maulana bin M Mustopa to 10 years of imprisonment,” stated the verdict, as quoted from the SIPP PN Cibinong website on Sunday (30/08/2026).
The verdict was delivered by a judicial panel chaired by Rachmat Kaplale, with members Ferdiansyah and M Aula Reza Utama, on 13 August. The sentence is lower than the 14-year prison term requested by the prosecutor.
In the indictment, prosecutors detailed that the incident occurred at the Ciawi Gadog Toll exit, Ciawi, Bogor Regency, in April 2025. Prosecutors stated that the defendant had initially purchased acid from a shop in Sukabumi.
On 8 April 2025, the defendant ordered an online taxi service using an account named Silvi, with a pickup point in Parung Kuda, Sukabumi, and a destination in Depok. The victim, M Yoga Firdaus, accepted the order and picked up the defendant using a Suzuki Ertiga.
“When the defendant met the victim, the defendant requested the victim to perform the trip offline, leading the victim to cancel the service order created by the defendant,” the prosecutor wrote.
During the journey, the defendant sat in the middle rear seat behind the driver. The defendant had brought the previously purchased acid with him.
“During the journey in the Ciaichi area, Bogor Regency, the defendant asked the victim to pull over to the roadside, claiming a need to urinate. After that, the defendant re-entered the car and sat in the middle rear seat behind the driver. The defendant then opened the bottle containing the acid and poured it over the victim’s head, allowing the liquid to flow down his face, shoulders, and lower body,” the prosecutor stated.
The victim, in immense pain from the acid, exited the vehicle to seek help. As the victim left the car, the defendant fled with the vehicle, leaving the victim behind with severe chemical burns.
The bottle used to hold the acid was later discarded by the roadside in the Sukasari area, East Bogor. Prosecutors noted that several residents saw the victim walking out of the toll area and sought help to transport him to the hospital.
Witnesses reported that the victim was staggering, with wounds on his face and fluid leaking from his mouth, accompanied by a very pungent odour. The victim reportedly collapsed near the Pandansari Village Office.
Residents approached the victim and reported the incident to the police. Officers subsequently transported the victim to RSUD Ciawi.
The victim received intensive care in the ICU at RSUD Ciawi; however, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead on 13 April 2025.
Following an investigation, the police successfully apprehended the suspect. Prosecutors revealed that the defendant had hidden the stolen car in his parents’ cassava plantation and had sold it for Rp 22 million.
