A robber used a lighter shaped like a pistol to threaten two minimarket employees in the Jakasetia area, South Bekasi District, Bekasi City, West Java.

During the incident, the perpetrator entered alone wearing a hat and mask. The two employees, identified as NA and TI, were then threatened by the suspect.

“The perpetrator went to the cashier’s desk and suddenly pulled out an object resembling a pistol from under his shirt, then pointed it at the witness,” said AKBP Abdul Rahim, Head of the General Crimes Sub-directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, in a statement on Saturday (20/6/2026).

The suspect then demanded the minimarket employees show him the safe room. He proceeded to the safe room and took money from it.

After the suspect was arrested, it was revealed that the object he carried was a lighter. “The evidence is one black Pietro Beretta pistol lighter,” he stated.

Police previously disclosed the chronology of the violent theft targeting a minimarket in Jakasetia, South Bekasi District, Bekasi City. During the crime, the perpetrator made off with Rp 12.1 million in cash and locked the minimarket employees inside.

“The incident began when witnesses NA and TI were on duty and the suspect suddenly arrived alone wearing a hat and mask,” said AKBP Abdul Rahim.

The incident occurred on Thursday (18/6). The suspect approached the cashier’s desk and threatened employee NA with the pistol-like object hidden under his shirt.

“He then pointed it at the witness and demanded to be shown to the safe room, then while brandishing the pistol, he marched both cashiers to the safe room located on the second floor,” AKBP Rahim explained.

The suspect then forced NA to open the minimarket safe. NA was also ordered to put Rp 11.6 million from the safe into a black plastic bag.

“After that, the perpetrator left and locked both victims inside the safe room,” AKBP Rahim revealed.

Based on CCTV footage viewed, the suspect went down to the first floor and took Rp 500,000 from the cash register drawer along with several packs of cigarettes. The suspect then fled after carrying out the crime.
