Robber shot dead in Senen
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta Police shot dead one of four
robbers near Senen Railway Station on Monday, a police officer
said.
Police detectives chief Capt. Hendra Suhartiyono said an
officer on patrol saw four men attempting to rob four women.
Hendra said the men were using sharp weapons to threaten the
women, who were waiting for a bus to their hometown of Cilacap,
Central Java.
"One of the thugs pointed a knife at Febriyanti's neck, but
none of the women was injured during the holdup," Hendra added.
"When they saw Sgt. Maj. Selamet, one of the thugs tried to
grab the victims' valuables while his friends fled."
He said the officer was forced to shoot the man after he tried
to attack him with a sickle.
"Selamet shot the robber in his right thigh, but he continued
to resist before being subdued after Selamet shot him in the
chest."
Police took the man to Kramatjati Police Hospital in East
Jakarta, but he died on the way. His body was admitted to the
Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue at 5:30 a.m.
"The police found a six-gram gold necklace and Rp 160,000
(US$23) in cash which he grabbed from the victims." Hendra added.
The chief of the Senen Police, Maj. Pratikno, previously
warned people not to wear valuables when visiting the area, known
for a high incidence of petty crimes. (06)
