Robber Kills Retired JICT Employee Ermanto Usman with Crowbar
Jakarta — A 28-year-old robber identified as S has been arrested for the murder of retired PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) employee Ermanto Usman in Pondok Gede, Bekasi, using a crowbar.
The suspect also attacked Usman’s wife, Pasmilawati (60), with the same crowbar. According to the Director of General Crimes at the Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, the crowbar was originally used by suspect S to force open a window at Ermanto’s house.
“The suspect spontaneously struck the victim with the crowbar, which had previously been used to prise open the window,” Iman explained during a press conference on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
After S successfully entered the house, Pasmilawati awoke to the sound of her mobile phone’s alarm. Upon turning on the light, she discovered the intruder inside the house. S then struck Pasmilawati’s head with the crowbar.
Ermanto, who had just awoken from sleep, also became a target as S panicked upon seeing both of them. “Panicking, the suspect subsequently attacked the male victim who had just woken up and was sitting on the bed,” Iman stated.
Following the assault, S took a mobile phone, laptop, jewellery, and a bag from the house. The bag contained vehicle keys. “One item has already been sold, and one has been used by the suspect,” Iman said.
S was apprehended at his rented accommodation in Cilincing, North Jakarta on Monday (9 March 2026) afternoon. According to AKBP Abdul Rahim, a subhead of the Crime Investigation Unit at Jakarta Metro Police, S attempted to flee, prompting police to shoot him in the leg.
“We did indeed take firm and measured action against the suspect because he attempted to escape,” he stated.
For his actions, S faces charges under Articles 458(1) and (3) and Article 479(3) of the new Indonesian Criminal Code, with a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
