Roasted Coconut Sales Flourish in West Aceh, Popular Iftar Treat
Roasted coconut sales during the holy month of Ramadhan 1447 AH/2026 in West Aceh Regency have experienced significant daily increases, with each roasted coconut priced at 10,000 rupiah per unit.
“Alhamdulillah, every day we manage to sell roasted coconuts reaching 100 units or more,” said Niswa, a roasted coconut vendor in the Peunaga Rayeuk Village area, Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency, on Wednesday (25 February 2026).
She stated that selling 100 roasted coconuts daily has become one of the income sources for residents during the holy month of Ramadhan. Niswa noted that the roasted coconuts sold by these seasonal traders are highly sought after by consumers because they taste particularly delicious when consumed during iftar.
During last year’s Ramadhan, roasted coconut prices in this area still ranged from 7,000 to 8,000 rupiah per unit or 15,000 rupiah for two units. However, this year, the price sold to consumers has increased to 10,000 rupiah per unit.
Niswa mentioned that roasted coconut is only sold by specialised vendors during the holy month of Ramadhan and is not sold in other months. This is because roasted coconut is one of the distinctive beverages of West Aceh society when the fasting month arrives.
