Roadwork disrupts telephones

JAKARTA (JP): Some 5,000 telephone lines from the Balaraja telephone exchange in Tangerang have been out of order since Jan. 26 due to roadwork on Jl. Raya Serang.

Fiber optic cables connecting the Tangerang and Balaraja exchanges were unintentionally cut by the road construction workers, Jimmy R. Villanueva, head of West Jakarta branch of PT Telkom, said yesterday.

"Telephone numbers beginning with 595 cannot be contacted for several days," he said. He did not say when the telephones would be in working order. (sur)
