Roadside hold ups

Roadside hold ups

From Suara Karya

I am an East Jakarta resident who uses the Bogor toll road
every day. The police have been requested to pay more attention
to security along that road, because lately hold up crimes
committed there during the night have considerably increased. The
criminals are sadistic as they stab their victims if the latter
doesn't give what is asked.

When they are about to commit their crimes, they mingle with
prospective passengers. When the situation allows, they quickly
point a knife or another sharp weapon at the victim. They
sometimes stab them in order to get a wallet or valuables.

Other potential passengers around the spot can only witness
the incidents without doing anything because they are afraid of
being injured. The victims are not limited to passengers on
public vehicles, as even motorbike riders stopping in front of
the traffic lights are not free from such a crime.

As an office employee, I am used to going home at night by
public transportation. Though I try not to wear valuable jewelry,
and carry only a small amount of money, for the transportation
fare, it's not impossible that I could fall victim.

Therefore, I ask the police to always keep watch at the said
place, especially at the extremely sensitive crossroads at Pasar
Rebo, East Jakarta.
