JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The area surrounding the northern perimeter of Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, feels like an impromptu hangout spot. Many residents come to relax while watching planes take off and land on Saturday afternoon (16/5/2026).

As observed by Kompas.com at the location, residents fill the side of North Perimeter Road, which directly faces the airport runway. Several visitors are seen sitting casually on banners or mats provided by vendors along the roadside. In this area, vendors sell various foods and drinks, ranging from iced beverages, meatballs, cilok (Indonesian dumplings), to sushi. Each time a plane is about to take off or land, visitors can be seen busy capturing the moment using their mobile phones. However, signs clearly stating “No stopping along the perimeter” are displayed throughout the area. Nevertheless, this does not deter the enthusiasm of residents who use the area as an affordable entertainment spot on weekends. In fact, some vendors sell right next to the prohibition signs. When aviation security officers patrol using cars and motorcycles, the vendors immediately pack up their banners and tidy up their merchandise. The officers then ask residents and vendors to leave the restricted area. One of the vendors, Kiki (27), said that the area is always crowded during weekends or holidays.
