Roads in Central Java 94% Ready for Eid Al-Fitr Travelers
The construction of roads in preparation for Eid al-Fitr in Central Java is continuing at pace. Although the budget has decreased by Rp300 billion compared to the previous year, the condition of roads in the province has reached 94% and is ready for travelers.
As monitored by Media Indonesia on Thursday (26/2), repairs to road sections on national, provincial, and district/city roads in Central Java are still underway. It is targeted that all repairs will be completed 10 days before the start of the Eid al-Fitr 2026 exodus as an effort to create smoothness, security, and comfort for travelers.
Central Java is expected to be the largest destination for travelers, which is predicted to reach 17.7 million people. For this reason, the success of the implementation of the exodus flow is the main concern so that thorough preparation from management to implementation, especially the readiness of the travel routes, both toll roads, the northern coastal road (Pantura), the central route, and the southern coastal route, continues to be carried out.
“The condition of provincial roads in Central Java, which stretches 2,440 kilometers, has reached 94%, so it is ready for travelers,” said the Head of the Central Java PUPR Office, Henggar Budi Anggoro, on Thursday (26/2).
The repair of damaged road sections due to extreme weather, he continued, is continuing and is targeted to be completed 10 days before Eid. In terms of calculation, on average each unit handles about 300 kilometers of road sections and inspections for repairs continue to be carried out every 3-4 days.
The Head of the Central Java Transportation Department, Arief Djatmiko, said that based on the results of a national survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) of the Ministry of Transportation, the number of travelers in Central Java reached 38.71 million, but it is estimated that 17.7 million people will pass through the province.
“The number of travelers entering Central Java is quite large, nationally, more than 40% of travelers make Central Java their main destination,” said Arief Djatmiko.
To maximize services for travelers, according to Arief, in addition to preparing Eid posts that will operate longer, starting from H-8 to H+7 at various points prone to traffic jams and accidents, they are also preparing CCTV devices to monitor the smoothness and security of travelers.
The posts will monitor vulnerable points through CCTV in crowded areas, such as the Gombong Market, as well as on major routes, including the Ketanggungan intersection, the Bumiayu ring road, the Wangon intersection, the Buntu intersection, the Bawen intersection, the Prambanan toll exit, the Bandungan tourist area, the Dieng intersection to Bayeman–Purbalingga.
Regarding the condition of the travel routes, said Arief, the Central Java Transportation Department has coordinated with the PUPR Department to ensure the condition of provincial roads and repairs are continuing, following a decline in the quality of asphalt due to rain.
“Vehicle inspections or ramp checks will be carried out strictly and vehicles that do not meet the roadworthiness requirements will not be allowed to operate,” he added.
Previously, the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, inaugurated two packages of provincial road preservation which are strategic routes connecting the economy and tourism in the Temanggung, Kendal, to Banjarnegara areas in order to ensure infrastructure readiness ahead of the Eid al-Fitr 2026 exodus.
The two road sections that have been completed are the Parakan (Temanggung)-Patean (Kendal) route and the Wonosobo-Dieng (Banjarnegara) route. “The focus of this repair is not only for driving comfort, but also as a step to strengthen connectivity between regions,” said Ahmad Luthfi.
The project, which was carried out from July to December 2025, includes improving the quality of the road through resurfacing and hardening the road shoulders, with a budget of Rp15.29 billion for the 4-kilometer Parakan-Patean section and Rp9.75 billion for the 3.925-kilometer Wonosobo-Dieng section.
“This is part of the government’s commitment to maintaining the condition of 2,440.12 kilometers of provincial roads in Central Java so that they remain in good condition,” he added. (AS/E-4)
