Roads around Monas reopen after Independence Day procession

A number of roads around the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta have been reopened to vehicles following the procession held to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence.

Based on observations at the scene, from 11.45 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, vehicles began to pass again along several roads that had previously been closed to support the smooth running of the procession.

A number of police officers were seen directing traffic at the Thamrin fountain roundabout, Patung Kuda.

Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jalan Budi Kemuliaan and Jalan MH Thamrin could again be used by vehicles, including Transjakarta buses.

Officers were still visible at several points to manage traffic flow and ensure vehicles could pass in an orderly manner.

The reopening of these roads allowed traffic activity around the Monas area to gradually return to normal after the procession was completed.

Previously, several roads around the Patung Kuda area had been closed since 8 a.m. Western Indonesia Time to hold the procession of the national flag.

Before the ceremony began, the national flag and the proclamation manuscript had arrived after being paraded from the National Monument to the Merdeka Palace in the Garuda Prabayaksa royal carriage, carried by the 2025 Purna-Paskibraka Duta Pancasila.

The procession to the Merdeka Palace was part of the commemoration ceremony for the 81st anniversary of the proclamation of Indonesian independence, themed ‘Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur’ (A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia).
