Road subsidence near West Lombok Regent’s Office remains unrepaired for three months

An arterial road linking Tempos village with Banyu Urip village in Gerung District, West Lombok, remains damaged and unrepaired. The road has subsided since 26 February 2026.

DetikBali observed on 21 May 2026 that half the carriageway has collapsed. The damaged section is only cordoned off with sacks of sand, and sand material also lies scattered across the road, partly covering the remaining usable carriageway.

This has forced motorists—particularly motorcycles—to pass with extra caution. The risk of accidents increases at night due to limited lighting at the site.

Four-wheeled vehicles, such as pickup trucks, can still pass alternately; oncoming traffic must wait at the end of the road as access narrows due to the subsidence.

Ironically, the road lies just a few kilometres from the West Lombok Regent’s Office, but it was repaired only at the end of 2025. The route, which had previously gone viral on social media for its surrounding rice fields that attracted visitors, is now left damaged for months without repairs.

Lalu Ratnawi, Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement (PUPR-PKP) Office in West Lombok, said repairs would be carried out this year. He explained that the PUPR-PKP Office would repair the retaining wall portion of the road first, followed by paving by the Roads Agency. “If we fix the retaining wall, the asphalt will come from the Roads Agency,” he said on 21 May 2026.

Earlier, the county road connecting Tempos and Banyu Urip in Gerung, West Lombok, NTB, subsided after the river eroded the road amid successive days of heavy rain on 26 February 2026. The road had only recently been repaired at the end of 2025 by the central government.

“Yes, the road that had just been completed subsided because it was eroded by river water,” said Sudirman, Head of Tempos Village, on 26 February 2026.
