Road subsidence in Lenteng Agung causes traffic jam up to Tapal Kuda Flyover
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Severe traffic congestion has occurred on Lenteng Agung Main Road in South Jakarta after a section towards Depok collapsed on Thursday (28 May 2026) evening. Vehicle queues were reported to stretch from Friday (29 May 2026) morning.
Jagakarsa Police Sector Traffic Unit Chief, AKP Benny Muchtar, said the traffic queues have reached the Tapal Kuda Flyover area.
“Traffic has reached the Tapal Kuda Flyover, approximately 3 kilometres from here. Vehicles heading towards Depok are indeed experiencing delays,” Benny stated at the scene on Friday (29 May 2026).
According to Benny, congestion is unavoidable as high vehicle volumes must navigate the drastically narrowed lane.
“It’s slowed down because it’s reduced from three lanes to one, so there’s a bit of a bottleneck,” Benny said.
Traffic conditions are expected to worsen in the afternoon and evening, particularly during rush hour.
Police remain on standby at the scene to manage traffic flow and prevent further congestion.
“We’ll see how it goes in the afternoon; we’re staying on standby to anticipate any issues,” Benny added.
Previously, a 16-metre section of Lenteng Agung Main Road collapsed with a depth of up to 3 metres. As a result, vehicle access is disrupted, with only one lane remaining operational.
Joint teams from the police, Transportation Department, Satpol PP, and Water Resources Department are still on site conducting emergency repairs to maintain traffic flow.
