The Bekasi Metro Police have stated that road conditions in Bekasi Regency are currently far from ideal. Large potholes and damaged concrete are frequently found, even on routes used by travelers and the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

“Ideally, conditions should be much better, as we evaluate road conditions during every activity. In reality, the situation is quite concerning,” said the Head of Traffic at the Bekasi Metro Police, Commissioner Sugihartono, in a statement on Tuesday (February 24).

Sugihartono added that they have requested the relevant authorities to immediately carry out road repairs so that they can be completed before the start of the Eid al-Fitr holiday or during the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026.

“We have socialized in a meeting that this is the responsibility of the implementing agency, and they must be held accountable. During Operation Ketupat, there should be no more potholes,” he said.

Field monitoring shows that damage occurs on almost all major routes, from Jalan Pantura along Tambun Selatan to Kedungwaringin, which is under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works, to Jalan Inspeksi Kalimalang, which is under the authority of the Bekasi Regency Government.

“Clearly, in every area from Tambun to Kedungwaringin, or on Pantura and Kalimalang, there are problems. The conditions include potholes with diameters of 30 centimeters (cm) and 20 cm. This also includes the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, which is managed by Jasa Marga,” he said.

Sugihartono said that significant damage also occurred on Jalan KH Raden Ma’mun Nawawi, which is under the authority of the West Java Provincial Government. This provincial route is even a high-risk area because traffic accidents frequently occur.

“We have coordinated everything so that during Operation Ketupat, there are no problems on this provincial route,” he concluded.

Prioritize traveler routes

Meanwhile, the Bekasi Regency Government is prioritizing the repair of road infrastructure, especially on routes used by travelers during this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, to ensure the safety, smoothness, and comfort of travelers during the upcoming homecoming and return periods.

Acting Regent of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, emphasized that road repairs are the top priority this year through a budget reallocation scheme and an acceleration of the schedule for physical development projects, moving them from the second semester to the first semester.

“We have rescheduled the projects so that they can be carried out soon. God willing, before Eid, we will ensure that all roads in Bekasi Regency have been repaired,” he said in Cikarang on Monday.

He stated that road repairs are also being carried out through a budget assistance scheme from the West Java Provincial Government, especially on routes that are designated as provincial roads, such as Jalan KH Raden Ma’mun Nawawi.

“I have coordinated with the West Java Provincial Government to repair provincial roads that have been damaged in Bekasi Regency. We are communicating with the Bappeda (Regional Development Planning Agency) of West Java Province,” he said. (AK)
