Road project may affect houses

Several hundreds of homes in the Kebon Jeruk and Grogol
Petamburan districts of West Jakarta will face demolition to make
way for a new highway.

Johny Suheri of the mayoralty's Public Works Office announced
yesterday that under Presidential Decree 55/1993, the affected
residents are entitled to compensation.

The level of compensation is to be based on a combination of
the local market price for land and the value of property stated
in the owners' tax papers. (mds)
