Road Points Expected to be Crowded with Labour Masses on May Day 1st at Monas
Several roads around the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta are predicted to be crowded with workers during the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration on Friday (1/5/2026). The density is triggered by the arrival of hundreds of thousands of workers from various regions. Information from the official X account of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate @TMCPoldaMetro indicates that congestion is likely to occur on all accesses leading to Monas. Several points predicted to experience density include: βTo avoid those roads for comfort and smooth driving,β as stated in the advisory. Based on data from the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate, around 200,000 workers are estimated to enter Jakarta using 4,000 buses and 20,000 motorcycles. To ease the congestion, the police together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government have prepared several parking pockets. Buses from West Java will be directed to JIExpo and Jalan Benyamin Sueb, Kemayoran. Vehicles will only drop off passengers around Monas before being directed to the designated parking locations. In addition, an additional location like Ancol has been prepared if parking capacity is insufficient, although its use is limited because it coincides with a holiday. The Director of Traffic of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Pol Komarudin, advised the public to avoid the Monas area and surroundings, and to reconsider travel plans, including to tourist spots. With the potential for a large surge in crowds, road users are urged to find alternative routes to avoid severe congestion in the centre of the Capital.
