JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The road on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, in front of the Metro Jaya Police headquarters, South Jakarta, has been damaged by rain.

The South Jakarta Bina Marga sub-department has carried out temporary repairs to prevent accidents.

Based on Kompas.com’s monitoring at the location on Friday (15/5/2026), several potholes can be seen on the side of the road, right next to the concrete barrier of the Transjakarta bus lane.

The potholes are surrounded by white spray paint, which stands out on the black asphalt.

The road surface appears to have varying heights, with traces of previous road repairs that are starting to erode.

Another pothole can also be seen near the Senayan bus stop, where the road appears uneven due to the patching.

The Head of the South Jakarta Bina Marga sub-department, Rifki Rismal, said that the road damage was caused by the rain.

“Yes, it is true that after the last rainy season, many potholes appeared. And our response is to quickly patch the potholes to prevent casualties,” Rifki told Kompas.com on Friday.

According to Rifki, a comprehensive, long-term repair using hotmix asphalt is still facing obstacles.

“Currently, the Bina Marga department is in the process of procurement for the periodic maintenance work using hotmix, which is somewhat hampered due to the instability of global oil prices. Because the raw material is asphalt, which is derived from petroleum,” he said.
