Residents of Kampung Nyikambang, Jombang Subdistrict, Cilegon City, have complained about their road being damaged and unrepaired for 25 years. The complaint was responded to with a promise of repairs by Banten Governor Andra Soni.

Local youth leader Taton (45) revealed that the road condition would worsen during floods in the area. Water once reached nearly one metre, causing traffic jams from the direction of Pasar Kranggot.

“We are starting to worry if there is heavy rain for a long time; we fear flooding like last time, which was nearly one metre high,” said Taton on Wednesday (15/6/2026).

At the same location, another issue attracting attention was the unmaintained irrigation channel. Blackened water, piles of rubbish, and silting made the area prone to flooding. Residents had even carried out dredging independently with whatever tools they had.

Meanwhile, Banten DPRD member Hasbi Sidik stated that residents had been dealing with the damaged road for 25 years. The damaged road had already claimed many victims.

“It has been 25 years without ever being built. There was even an incident where a pregnant woman miscarried due to the road conditions. We proposed it together with Cilegon City Government, and alhamdulillah, it is now being realised,” he said.

In response, Banten Governor Andra Soni stated that he would repair the damaged road. The road repair project would be included in the Bangun Jalan Desa Sejahtera (Bang Andra) programme.

Through the Bang Andra programme, the 1.3 kilometre-long road with a width of 4 metres would be constructed using concrete with a budget of around Rp3.4 billion from the Banten Provincial APBD. This construction is expected to improve the comfort and safety of residents, as well as facilitate connectivity to Pasar Kranggot, schools, and alternative access to Cilegon City Hospital.

“I received a report of a road that has not been repaired for decades. Since this is under provincial authority, we have budgeted for it this year,” he said.

Andra also highlighted the importance of handling irrigation, which falls under central government authority. He emphasised that the Banten Provincial Government together with Cilegon City Government would coordinate with the Cidanau Ciujung Cidurian River Basin Authority (BBWS C3) of the Ministry of Public Works to encourage normalisation.

“If the water channels are not fixed, flooding will continue to occur. We encourage dredging, but the community must also help maintain cleanliness,” he stated.

Head of Banten Public Works and Public Housing Department, Arlan Marzan, added that the construction would be done with 20 cm thick concreting to make it more durable.

“This is not just about the road, but also connectivity to education and economic centres like the market. The target is completion in about 4 to 5 months,” he explained.
