Road Damage Accidents in Pasar Kemis Tangerang Have Claimed 4 Lives
The Tangerang Metropolitan Police have recorded at least four deaths from traffic accidents on Jalan Raya Pasar Kemis, Tangerang Regency, Banten, throughout February 2026. Damaged road conditions are suspected to be one of the factors triggering these fatal accidents.
Tangerang Metropolitan Police Traffic Unit Law Enforcement Head Ipda Purbawa said all four accidents on Jalan Raya Pasar Kemis involved motorcyclists and large vehicles.
“In February, there have already been 4 accident incidents,” Purbawa said on Friday (13/2).
The first victim was a woman with the initials M (42) who died after an accident involving a truck. In the second incident, a woman with the initials SM (21) died after an accident involving a dump truck on Sunday (7/2). On Tuesday (11/2), a male motorcyclist with the initials ML (19) died at the scene after an accident involving a trailer truck. Most recently, another fatal accident occurred on Friday (13/2). A female student with the initials CRA (18) died after an accident involving a concrete mixer truck.
“The causes vary. What the public has been talking about is indeed the damaged roads—the incidents did occur near damaged roads. However, there is also a human error factor involved,” Purbawa said.
Suspected Road Operator Negligence
Purbawa added that his team is currently investigating the possibility of suspected negligence on the part of the road operator, in this case the executive government.
“If it is indeed related to damaged roads, we will conduct further investigation regarding these incidents,” Purbawa said.
Regarding the investigation’s progress, Purbawa said his team is still tracing the party responsible for the maintenance of the damaged Pasar Kemis road.
“I am trying to coordinate first regarding the road authority, because some roads fall under the authority of the regency/city government, provincial government, or national government,” he explained.
Meanwhile, when contacted separately, Banten Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR) Head Arlan Marzan revealed that Jalan Raya Pasar Kemis falls under the responsibility of the Tangerang Regency Government.
“It is under Tangerang Regency’s authority. We will coordinate,” Arlan said.
At the time of writing, CNNIndonesia.com had not yet received an official statement from the Tangerang Regency Government.
