Jl. Jembatan Batu in the Tanah Tinggi area, Central Jakarta, was inexplicably changed into a one-way street last month. Vegetable vendors now have their stalls in the roads along the riverbank.

Traffic snarls are now a daily occurrence.

Many of the streets in East Jakarta and North Jakarta are in dire condition due to damage from heavy trucks and the erosion caused by stagnant water. The regional government must take immediate steps because poor streets directly affect the people. But so far little attention has been paid to the problem.
