Road Collapses and House Walls Crack in Pulogadung, City Government Steps In
A video showing a cracked and collapsed road in the Pulogadung area of East Jakarta has gone viral on social media. The walls of surrounding residents’ houses have also cracked. The condition is precisely located on Jalan Cinta, Pulogadung Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta. The road and settlement are situated on the banks of the Sunter River. The ground surface has subsided to the point where the road concrete has broken, and the fissures appear quite significant. The fractured road is also considerably long. Reports indicate the land subsidence is ongoing, thus widening the cracks in the broken road concrete. Additionally, in the video, residents show the condition of their house walls, which are cracked, with some already gaping open. This condition is suspected to have been triggered by the land subsidence on the Sunter River bank. Residents are worried about a landslide occurring on the subsided land, which would also impact their homes. They fear their houses will be eroded if a landslide truly occurs on the soil at the edge of the Sunter River. East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated he has coordinated with the Water Resources Agency for the handling of the land subsidence on the edge of the waterway. Water Resources Agency officers have also begun handling the location. ‘I have coordinated with the Water Resources Agency, directly with the agency head. It will be followed up by the Water Resources Agency,’ said Munjirin on Monday. He mentioned that temporary handling is currently underway. The cause of the land subsidence is not yet known, whether it is due to soil movement or abrasion from the river’s water flow. ‘And for the time being, handling has been managed by the East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency using wooden piles,’ he said.
