Road capacity & discipline
Road capacity & discipline
From Suara Karya
The public keeps complaining about traffic congestion in
Jakarta, particularly during morning and afternoon peak hours.
The 3-in-1 system has been applied to cars on main roads, but
its effectiveness remains debatable, while the mass media have
made the phenomenon an interesting subject of discussion.
In my own daily experience, I notice that traffic jams are
mainly caused by the increasing numbers of private cars and
motorcycles operating in the city, whereas the road capacity to
accommodate the growing burden is limited abd has remained
unchanged.
Under such circumstances, in order to minimize the effect of
congestion, particularly with the intensive marketing of new
automotive brands, drivers of private and public motor vehicles
should be aware of the necessity to observe discipline and to
abide by road rules.
