Road accidents in West Java
BANDUNG: A total of 405 people have been killed over the last three months in road accidents in West Java.
West Java Police Chief Maj. Gen. Soebandy said that altogether there were 652 road accidents in the province during the period between September and November. Besides the 405 deaths, 473 people suffered heavy injuries and 564 sustained light wounds.
Soebandy was giving the statistics as he launched Operasi Lilin (Candle Operation) for the duration of the Christmas and New Year's holiday season from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3.
The operation, intended to enforce order on the roads and also against crimes, will involve 12,783 personel. (emb)
