Road accident kills four

SEMARANG: All four passengers of a Kijang van were killed in a head-on collision with a truck carrying oxen in Sirangkang village of Pemalang, some 130 kilometers west of here, on Saturday.

Police identified two of the fatalities as Tarminah, 54, and the van's driver, Dedi Suryadi, 26, both residents of Lengkongsari village in Tasikmalaya, West Java. The other casualties remain unidentified.

The truck's driver, Sutikno, 47, from Gedungwaru village in Tulungagung, East Java, survived with slight injuries.

Spokesman for Central Java Police Lt. Col. M. Ramlie said the accident occurred after the speeding van crossed the traffic line at a curve, overlooking the truck.

It was raining heavily when the crash happened.

Ramlie surmised the four dead passengers were relatives. (har/01)
