RMA Indonesia Explores Possibility of Local Ford Vehicle Assembly in Indonesia
Jakarta — PT RMA Indonesia is considering the possibility of assembling Ford vehicles locally in Indonesia. The company is currently studying various possibilities with the principal manufacturer regarding the realisation of this plan.
Roelof Lamberts, Regional Director of RMA Indonesia, stated that the company is currently examining the possibility of a Ford factory being built in Indonesia. According to Roelof, discussions regarding this plan remain in the early stages, with multiple stakeholders involved in deliberations to assess the feasibility and potential realisation of Ford vehicle assembly domestically.
“Thus, discussions are still being conducted between several parties. If the outcome is positive, then there is a good chance it could happen,” said Roelof.
The scheme is considered fairly common practice among automotive manufacturers newly entering the Indonesian market. By utilising production facilities owned by third parties, local assembly processes can be carried out more quickly without having to build a factory from scratch.
For context, this approach has also been widely adopted by several Chinese manufacturers that have entered Indonesia in recent years.
